So I put off writing this post for a while because the moment that anyone tends to be like "YAY ITS SUMMER" I feel like the weather thinks 'LOL JOKE IS ON YOU' and pops every rain cloud in the northern hemisphere, situates them around me in Balham and makes it rain for approximately 546649 days.
Buuuut as I sit on my bed in a bit of a sweaty mess after the 10 minute walk to Sainsburys and my makeup drips off my face, yup I think we can all finally admit - SUMMER IS HERE GUYSSSSS. So I may just be extra nostalgic because I haven't experienced an English summer in YEARS, and yes my last post was also about things I wanna achieve this summer, but guys I can't help it I just really like summer okay.
Plus there's something about British summer that just doesn't compare to warm weather anywhere else in the world. I want the stone seaside of Brighton beach, multi-coloured beach huts, patchy fake tans and pastel coloured waffle cones all the way please. It gives me this crazy nostalgia back to my childhood days when we would all pile into the car, be forced to listen to my stepdad's music and then gorge our faces in old school crab sandwiches and cream teas on the beach.
So sit down, grab a seat, or a sun lounger, or a cushion, or really whatever floats your boat and your girl Millie is gonna come through with the absolute Basic Bitch essentials to get you through a summer. Psssssst if you listen really closely you can hear the sound of a thousand Brits screaming as their makeup slides off their face and all fans except the £325 Dyson one sells out on Amazon.
Disclaimer - I am totally not going to lie because I have full on considered buying said fan in the midst of a very sweaty, sleepless night this week but ya know I feel like £325 for a fan when England has maybe 12days of this kind of intense heat every year is a bit much?
Okay, okay I hear ya, enough rambling - let's get straight on in to the bits I cannot live with this summer.
FACE TAN AND PERFUME
So this isn't so much a summer fragrance because it's 100% what I wear all year long and I LOVE IT, I think mid twenties was when I really wanted to start investing in frangrances and coming up with a signature scent (you know one that isn't that garlic and herb dip from Dominos mixed along with remnants of a Yankee candle.) And Chloe's Love Story is what I opted for. So I'm not gonna lie I'm the worst at talking about fragrances, I remember the horror whenever I was stuck at the fragrance counter in one of my first ever jobs and I had to make up lies / spout random information about the inspiration for the scents. But this one, it's got a special place in my heart. It has the most understated, light floral scent and it's not too overpowering, not too sweet, it's just a darn beauty and it's my everyday wear without fail. That being said, there's something about the smell which just undeniably makes it perfect as a summer scent. In the summer months I tend to get real damn picky about what fake tan I use, I was a total newbie to fake tan before I moved to Australia where you know, you kinda get burnt to a crisp and increase your chances of getting skin cancer by 653466% if you lie out in the sun, so Bondi Sands foam in Light Medium became my new best friend. It's not too intense, so I find doing 2 coats of this gives me the perfect summery glow. Although on my face I really couldn't bare to use anything that isn't Clarins Liquid Bronze Self Tanner. It's the easiest face specialist tan that you can use, (I mean I'm pretty much as lazy as a basic bitch gets and it's my absolute go to) I love that I can work this is as a part of my skincare routine and for all you sensitive skin gals it's such a soothing and gentle formula.
PRIMARK FASHION PICKS
Is it just me or are Primark killing summer right now? When I went upto Manchester for Parklife festival the other week, I popped into the city store to grab some bits and was just totally floored by these incredible palm tree print denim shorts. They size a tiny on the small side so I did end up going a size up, but they are the most stunning high rise shorts and I'm pretty sure I'm going to be obsessed with wearing them all damn summer long. Along with the palm swimwear top I think it's the cutest festival outfit I wore to Parklife all weekend. Trounced in glitter ofc, because do you even festival if you aren't covered in glitter? Of course Primark unfortunately have not launched an online shop yet (PLZ DO GUYSSS HOW GOOD WOULD THAT BE) So I've linked some similar pieces below because don't we all need a bit of palm tree lovin this summer? For the swimwear top, I usually don't find these fits all that flattering when it comes to swimwear, but I've been loving them as festival / summer pieces tucked into shorts or a skirt, I feel like it adds a super cute and casual look to the outfit.
SUMMER MAKE UP PICKS
Summer for me is when I like to bring my makeup back to basics a little. I like really natural looking, dewy skin, piling on the face oil at night to give my skin a bit more of a natural glow and I tend to gravitate to nude lips, peachy cheeks and just really toned down colours. I've been really loving the Makeup Revolution Highlight Stick as with all Makeup Revolution, it's such an affordable product and it's such a good way of lightly strobing your skin to get that super highlighted and dewy effect. I love applying this to the high points of my face as it's just a really flattering way of adding a bit of extra oomph to my everyday look.
For foundation I've been heavily fangirling over the Josie Maran Vibrancy Foundation, I bought this in Australia during their summer and I'm still SO obsessed with it. It's just an ace formula, packed with good stuff it just tends to make my skin look more radiant and not dry up / flake during the day. It'e become my top pick for when you want to look hydrated, fresh and just glowy (because let's face it I'm only happy when my face looks like you could fry an egg on it.)
So that pretty much ties up my absolute basic must haves when it comes to summer! I hope that you guys have enjoyed this post (you can probs tell that I'm living for the summer inspired content right now!)
