So I think anyone that has ever met me or talked to me about makeup / skincare will know instantly that I love a bit of glow.
Well actually that's such a gross underestimation of a phrase that I can't even say it with a straight face. I like to SLATHER myself in glow, I want to be so shiny that I wouldn't be out of place in your coin purse and I want to radiate that J-Lo Glow we all look at in pure admiration. I mean we all know how happy I can look if it literally looks like you could fry an egg on my face.
I think having always suffered from pretty dry, dehydrated and congested skin - my face just seems to eat up all the makeup it sees, and I really long for anything that's going to up my glow, hydration and make my skin look a little more alive. I mean we know how it is, we wake up - see our skin looking a little worse for wear, dull and we promise to sleep more, drink water and really be GOOD to it. But then First Dates is on, and you need to fill in your Bullet Journal for tomorrow and you need to meal prep so you don't end up eating crap. All of a sudden it's 3am and you're watching cat videos on youtube, not really knowing what's going on.
Luckily, I've been able to stumble upon a few good old products that always seem to help my skin out when it feels a little tired, dull and worse for wear. These are the ones I go when my skin needs not only a splash of good hydration, but just some general TLC.
The Clarins Liquid Bronze Self Tanner has been a firm favourite of mine for yonks to come, being that my skin is naturally pretty sensitive and dry, I'm always really apprehensive about putting mousse formulas on my face. It's a super gentle formula that smells YUM and you just work into your regular skincare routine. Other skincare items I visit regularly when my skin needs a bit of extra oomph and glow would be The Super Facialist Vitamin C Cleanser by Una Brennan and The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil. The cleanser is probably my favourite oil cleanser EVER and it's a massively good bargain buy at £11 from Boots. It's a perfect step 1 for a Caroline Hirons style double cleanse routine and breaks down makeup perfectly. The Tea Tree Oil is one of my favourite natural remedies to fight acne and blemishes and I love popping a few drops of this on before bed - I feel like it leaves my skin really rejuvenated and just looking a little happier.
Chemical exfoliating is a massive part of making my skin look happier and more on the glowing side. My two top products for helping me get that look have to be Pixi's Glow Tonic and Paula's Choice AHA. Glow Tonic has it's cult status for a reason, it is quite simply just a really, really FAB glycolic acid toner and does a sublime job of eating away at the dead skin cells on the surface of your face, and leaves my skin feeling glowy and fresh. So I totally don't get the specifics of it - A SCIENTIST I AM NOT - but AHA (standing for Alpha Hydroxy Acid) does pretty much the same thing, but at a different concentration, you can read more here.
Okay now onto the good stuffs - The Make Up! A good base for me is super vital at making my skin look and feel hydrated and at it's best. Two of my absolute FAVE products for achieving this are The Josie Maran Vibrancy Foundation and The BECCA Cosmetics Backlight Priming Filter. The foundation is the glowiest of the glowy ones, and I just love the natural look that it gives my skin. It's PERFECT for natural looking makeup days, or when you just want to show your skin off with a dewy base. The perk of it being a Josie Maran product aswell is that as with all her other products, it's based on her iconic Argan Oil formula and so it's actually good for your skin, while making it look amazing. The BECCA Backlight Priming Filter has got to be my favourite primer of all time. I love either applying this with my fingers before foundation, to areas that I want to look a little more highdrated (mainly my T zone and my cheekbones) or actually mixing it in with whatever base I'm going to be going in with to create a hella natural looking glow.
